I. General Objectives

The student will gain a greater awareness and appreciation of the evolution of nuclear weapons issue in recent history.

II. Specific Objectives

1.) To examine the impact of nuclear weapons on world politics.
2.) To portray the relationship between the two superpowers - the U.S.S.R. and the U.S. - beginning with World War II and to show how changes in their relationship have affected the nuclear arms buildup.

3.) To analyze complex issues related to nuclear weapons, including the role of science and technology, the nature of deterrence, diplomacy, and negotiation in the nuclear age, proliferation, arms control, and the ethical debate about nuclear weapons in a historical context.
