    Vannevar Bush was almost single-handedly responsible for the creation of an American atomic bomb program. As an engineer who was a talented Washington insider, Bush used his political skills to become Franklin Roosevelt's chief scientific adviser. He used his access to the President to make possible, more than any other American of his day, the entrance of the United State into the nuclear age.
